About the Artist
I was born and raised in the Boston area, and moved to Sitka with my family in 1993. I am thrilled to live in such a beautiful place, and no longer consider myself a ‘New Englander’, but rather a ‘transplanted Alaskan’. I am a part owner of Alaska Computer Center, a local business that is owned and operated by my stepfather and myself. In my leisure time, ceramics is one of my most favorite activities.
I first began to work with clay in high school, and I particularly enjoy throwing (forming pieces on a potter’s wheel) and finding new variations of everyday shapes. Some of the Potters who I studied with early on were trained in the Japanese traditional style, and I think my work shows that influence, as well as a more eclectic style that reflects my extensive travels to many different countries.
I like the idea that pottery can be both useful and decorative, and that it can feel as good to hold a piece as it does to look at it. I hope you will enjoy looking at and using my pots as much I as I enjoy making them.
